Why service your van?

We understand how important it is to keep your van on the road. It is not a legal requirement to regularly service your van - however, it’s highly recommended in order to maintain the condition of your vehicle, avoid breakdowns and increase your van’s lifespan.

What is a van service?

A van service includes an inspection of your vehicle’s mechanical components, such as your engine, brakes, suspension, and ensures that everything is working correctly. These services are typically conducted every 12 months or 12,000 miles.

We often get asked what the difference is between van services and MOT tests. An MOT test is an annual, legally required, inspection that ensures your vehicle is roadworthy and complies with DVSA regulations, whereas a van service is designed to inspect the components of your vehicle against manufacturer specifications – which are subject to wear and tear, making sure that they are working effectively.

Benefits of van servicing

There are several benefits to having your van serviced on a regular basis:

  • Reduced risk of breaking down – there are certain components of your van which can be more susceptible to wear than others. With an annual service, we ensure these components are in good condition – meaning you’re less likely to suffer a breakdown.

  • Avoiding serious damage – regular servicing can uncover any underlying damage within your vehicle which will prevent further, long term, damage that could be caused by continuing to drive without getting these issues rectified. This could also prevent loss of income if your van is repaired before any detrimental damage results in your van being taken off the road.

  • Increased fuel efficiency – a healthy engine with replenished engine fluids burns fuel more effectively, ensuring your van is more fuel efficient.

How often should I service my van?

In general, it is recommended that you have either a Bronze, Silver or Gold service every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Your vehicle handbook will provide specific guidance from the manufacturer on how regularly you should service your van.
